A New Year

It is 2011 already. Time flies when you are having fun. How many times have you written 2010 this year when you should have written 2011? This is something I struggle with every year. It reminds me of salvation. There is a change that occurs in our life. Sometimes, though, we get stuck in the old ways. With the help of the Holy Spirit, over time, we can get to where we are sinning less and less over time. Eventually, our physical body dies and we go to Heaven to sin no more.

Let's not be stuck in last year and let's not be stuck in our old habits. Let us press on toward the prize of the high calling of Jesus Christ.

We have re-started the meetings on Fridays at noon in the Student Center. Last Friday was our first meeting of the semester. If you are a student at IUPUI, please come join us. We meet on the 2nd floor of the Student Center across from Chic-fil-a at noon on Fridays.

We are looking for an exciting 2011.

Next meeting is December 3rd

We have moved our regular meetings to Fridays in the Student Center on the 1st floor across from Chic-fil-a at 12:00 PM. We will not be having a meeting the day after Thanksgiving. Our next meeting will be December 3rd.

Please plan to join us as we talk about relative truth. Is truth relative? Is truth absolute? Come join our discussion and see how this applies to our call to tell others about Jesus Christ.

I just wanted to give a shout out to Jim Miller. He stood in for me this past Monday as I was gone to a pastor's conference. It sounds like he had a good time and handed out some tracts encouraging students to join in the group.

There will be no meeting October 18th as school will be out. The following Monday, we will join with Good Messengers Ministry as they have their monthly meeting at Horizon Christian Fellowship Central 1001 E Palmer Indianapolis IN 46203 from 6:30 PM until around 9:00 PM.

Friday November 12th-Saturday November 13th, ACT for the Gospel will be hosting Open Air Campaigners training. Open Air Campaigners uses visual arts to draw people in to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. You do not need to be an artist to use these techniques, but you will look like one. Plan on coming to this free training Friday evening from 6-8 PM. and Saturday from 10 AM until about 2:30 PM with a break for lunch.

After the training, there will be a outreach opportunity. This will be a great opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the people around us. Today is the Day!

Today, September 13th, 2010, is the day for our first meeting of CCN @ IUPUI for this school year. I am eagerly waiting for this evening to come. I am excited about what can happen on a university campus if we allow God to be in control.

This year, we are opening up our meeting to people outside of the IUPUI community. With IUPUI being a commuter campus, we really want to reach out and be an instrument for God wherever we find ourselves. Many students at IUPUI are part time students with full and active lives outside of college. This brings unique obstacles as well as unique opportunities.

My prayer is that we will seize the opportunities and allow God to deal with the obstacles.

Today, we have laid the ground work to be recognized as an official group on campus again this year at IUPUI. Our student president is Rachael Winzeler. She has years of experience on the mission field in Brazil and has come back to the states to complete her degree.

We are planning our first official meeting of the year for Monday 9/13/2010 from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM. Be sure to sign up for updates and you will get alerted when we have the meeting place reserved, or you can just check back from time to time.

We are very excited about what God has in store for us this year. It should be a fun year as we set out to change the campus for the glory of God.

A new school year

I am looking forward to working with the students that I know and also looking forward to meeting the many of you that I have yet to meet. My name is Barry Atwell and CCN has recently ask me to come on board as the "leader".

I am no longer a student, but I have taken classes at IUPUI in the past. Some of you may have seen me in the student center on Fridays last semester tooling around in my wheelchair passing out tracts and getting into some neat conversations with people.

I thought I would take a moment to let you know a little about why I am interested in CCN at IUPUI.

As a former student at IUPUI and as a resident of Indianapolis, there is a bit of a natural affinity to the campus. God has given me and my wife a real heart felt desire to see people come to know Jesus as their savior the way we have. For me, it was several years ago that I realized that even though I believed that Jesus was the son of God and that He died on the cross for me and that He rose from the dead, that alone did not save me. The Bible tells us that Satan and his demons believe. It was when I came to realize that I had violated God's laws or rules that I realized that according to the Bible, I was lost in my sin and condemned. It was then, that I became aware that I needed to repent from my sin, or turn away from my sin, and allow Jesus to be the Lord of my life. In Romans chapter 10 it say that if we declare Jesus as Lord of our life and we believe that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved.

I love people and do not want to see anyone suffer what all of us deserve to suffer because we have violated the laws of our creator. I know that none of us can do enough good to make up for what we have done wrong, but I also know that Jesus paid the price for us if we are only willing to accept what he did on our behalf.

I look forward to working with students at IUPUI as we go out and tell others the good news.

This Monday (3/29), CCN at IUPUI will once again be taking a "field trip" to the Good Messengers monthly meeting.

Details are as follows.....
Where/When: We will meet in the Campus Center, room CE 306, and around 6:15 we will leave campus to go to the meeting at Horizon Christian Fellowship Central, 1001 E Palmer St, Indianapolis. From there, the meeting will go until 8:30pm, though fellowship usually continues to about 9pm. When we leave the IUPUI campus, you are welcome to drive yourself (especially if you come late), but otherwise transportation will gladly be provided.

Why: During the monthly evangelism meeting, we fellowship over food, study God’s word as it relates to evangelism (A message is planned for Romans 1:21-23), then we plan outreaches/plant vision and pray.

PLUS: If you are available before the normal scheduled time, from 5:45-6pm, we will meet in the Campus Center 4th floor for prayer.

Praise God for who He is and what He has done and continues to do!

Here is a praise report concerning our first CCN SATURDAY, March 6th 2010....

Praise to God through Christ for a beautiful day of fellowship in the Gospel, praise, prayer, and evangelism. Before hitting the streets, we looked at what God's Word says about "Biblical Evangelism" and then took a look at "The Difference between the God-centered Gospel and the man-centered message."

Here is one thought from each lesson...

Biblical evanglism: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek" (Romans 1:16). Our trust is in the power of God's News to bring sinners to Himself, and using any other means to entice the lost is deceptive and void of true saving power. Is your evangelism based on pragmatism or God's standard? Also, does your evangelism represent a non-urgent message that can be delivered as you wish, or are you enjoying obedience to this urgent command: "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).

God's News vs. man's message: Why you can't use Heaven as a draw card to salvation....

1) People don’t know what Heaven really is. (Where God is exalted and passionately worshiped.) They think Heaven is the fulfillment of their current desires.

2) Even if they did know, they wouldn’t want to go there! (The human heart is at enmity with God, despising His glory (Romans 1:21, Romans 8:7). Whether it’s temporary or eternal life-enhancement, it makes no difference, selling God’s salvation for man’s happiness is Humanism (Man-centered), not God-centered.

After the teaching, by God's grace, we took the Biblical, God-centered Gospel downtown Indy, some of us going to the mall, and others going to the Circle. By His grace, we had many great encounters, confronting people with the truth of God's judgment, the reality of their enmity with God as evidenced by their sin, the nature of the Holy God they have rejected, and the nature of the holy Law they have transgressed. This prepared the way to testify of the amazing satisfaction of God's justice and mercy through the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of grace. We also met another evangelizing brother while we were downtown- Glory to God!

Here is what one Gospel witness had to say: I praise God for using the teachings on CCN Saturday to challenge, convict, and encourage! Honestly, it was truly a blessing just to hear the God-centered Gospel, over and over, all day long! The more God allows me to understand the depth of the love I've been shown, the less I become.

"Thank you!" to all who came out to the day. It was an encouragement to see the Lord bring laborers, and a blessing to have each of you there. For His Name's sake, may He continue to bless you with the revelation of His grace and love towards you in the Gospel, and encourage your heart to share His Good News joyfully, passionately, and Biblically.

"Thank you!" to all who prayed, both for us and our hearers. Do not underestimate the value of beseeching God for His Name's sake. Only the Spirit of God can bring to life the very dry bones, and your prayers to Him through Christ our Mediator are certainly pleasing to Him and worthwhile. "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16). We appreciate your prayers.

The Case for Atheism: There isn't one.

"If I face God on Judgment Day, I will tell Him to go to hell!" Those are the shocking words from Dan Barker, president of the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

Here is the punch line: For 17 years, Dan Barker was an evangelical pastor.

Todd Friel, host of The Way of the Master Radio debated Mr. Barker to resolve the question, 'Does God Exist?'. Not only will you learn from the entire debate, but you will also learn:

1. How does someone go from being a "Jesus lover" to a Jesus hater?

2. How to witness to an intellectual without being intimidated.

3. How to defend your Christian faith when confronted with atheist arguments.

You do NOT need to know every apologetic argument. You do NOT need to know everything about evolution. You do NOT need to know everything about religious history. But you do need to know how to wield the two weapons that God has provided us.

After watching this debate, you will know how to use this artillery so you can witness to ANYONE. And most important, you will never be responsible for creating another bitter backslider like Dan Barker.

Testimonies of God's faithfulness from a CCN member...

FROM THE FIELD

Location: Campus Center

"Last week, when a few of us met up to share the Good News during lunch hour, we saw God's faithfulness once again. The first tables we encountered made it clear they did not want to hear the Gospel. Some at the tables showed interest, yet more vocal members of the group said they did not want to continue the conversation. When the light of God's Word began to shine on them and conviction came, it echoed John 3:19-20: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed..." So, we moved on, prayed, and by His grace joyfully remembered,

"A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!" Matthew 10:24-25

and

"If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you." 1 Peter 4:14

Then next table we came to had two guys who were hesitant to talk at first, but then they opened up. By God's grace, we were able to go through about half the 10 commandments with them to help them see their state before God. Then, they were able to conclude their own inability to change their guilty status or sinful lifestyles. Praise God! His salvation deals with both those issues! They asked several times to hear of God's solution to what they now perceived as their great problem. We then explained the Good News of Christ's atoning death and His victorious resurrection, which the guys affirmed now made much more sense than it ever had to them. Glory to God alone! In light of the Good News, we shared God's command to repent and believe.

They thanked us several times, willingly shared their contact info, and replied that no one had ever shared this news with them or helped them understand their guilt before God or His salvation. O Church of Christ arise! How many there are who have never been given Christ's true Gospel!

Specific topics addressed included:

- The magnitude of sin's offense to God
- God's holy, just, and good nature
- The nature of man as wicked and our inability to change ourselves
- The death and resurrection of Jesus, along with implications
- God's worthiness of all repentance and faith

You may face rejection or not, but we live in the such amazing freedom to share the Gospel, while our brothers and sisters risk their very lives. FROM THE FIELD:

Location: Library

"One day this past week, God impressed on my heart to stay after class to study with some classmates and to share the gospel with them. He led me to pray for a door to be opened and for me to walk through it. The classmates that I thought would stay did not, and I headed over to the library by myself. I ran into a classmate there that I was a little less familiar with. I joined him in working on homework problems. I waited until we were done with the problems and began a conversation. It was an open door. My classmate was very willing to share his thoughts with me and also to listen as I shared the gospel with him. He seemed to quickly become convinced of his own sinfulness and God's justice, and then also of God's amazing love and grace. Towards the end of our conversation, he made the statement, "I think it's time." I asked him if he meant it was time to repent, believe, and follow Jesus, and he said yes. I did not lead him in a prayer. He had to leave for class, but he thanked me for sharing with him. He said he'd never heard this about Jesus. Please pray for my classmate. Pray that God will bring him into His Kingdom and make him into a passionate follower of Christ. It was a blessing to get to share with him and to see the work that God had already been doing in his heart. Pray also that I may continue to be a faithful witness to him. Glory to God!"

Prayer Requests:

Please: Pray for our hearers, that God's Spirit would bring them to life by the truth of Christ; crucified, buried, and risen.

Also, please pray for each of us in CCN that we may

reflect God's desire to see all men come to repentance
live holy lives that show the power and truth of God
be unmovably bold in proactively getting Christ's unadulterated News to the lost
be seperate from the world and luke-warmness and unto God
see our sin more clearly, and see more clearly the depth of the love we've been shown in Christ Jesus.

Explore the doctrine and nature of Justification and flee legalism.

Learn apologetics and implications of the Resurrection.

How do we prepare to biblically fulfill the second part of the Great Commission?

From the Field: This past week, by God's grace, several of us set aside spent Tuesday and Thursday lunch hours in the campus center. First, praise God for His faithfulness, raising up laborers, and allowing us to go! Next, thank you to each of you who came! It was a blessing to have many encounters with students who were willing to talk and listen to the law and Gospel. Specifically, on Tuesday there was a group of four younger students who engaged with us in conversation, which we steered to God's concepts of law and justice. Then upon that foundation, we were able to explain God's God-Centered Good News, magnifying His glory and His love. Also, Thursday, we were blessed to meet younger guys who were familiar with false Gospels, but had never understood either their place before God or the fact that they couldn't do anything to change it. They both grew quiet under the testimony of their conscience that it's not just what they've done that's been evil in God's sight, it's who they've been. (Christ's words in Matthew 7:16-20 is powerful to help people realize this.) Then, we were able to explain Jesus' free grace. All in all, most we encountered many groups who had never heard the true Gospel.

Issues we especially dealt with were:

God's justice
His law
God deserves them to repent and believe
The difference between the Gospel and the Gospel call to repent and believe it.
The nature of justification

Please keep praying for us and our hearers. That we would be be joyfully bold and obedient, and that they would be brought to God through Christ.

Hi CCNers,

Hopefully you had a good first week. Already I've been blessed by seeing God raise up passionate laborers with His burden for His glory and lost souls, as well as Him getting His News to people on campus.

This week's Training Fellowship, we will be revisiting an important subject, with emphasis on the practical applications and implementing it in evangelism.

When: 2pm-4pm

Where: Campus Library 4th floor

What: Who is exalted in the news we bring to people? What is the supreme motive for the sinner's repentance? Is it "fire-insurance?" Is it life-enhancement? How do we, as "ambassadors of Christ," represent Him well, and as a God both loving and "zealous for His holy Name" Ezekeil 39:25.

Why: God's glory. Our growth. "Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

"That the Lamb receive the full reward for His suffering!"

Hi saints,

I hope you are well and enjoying the beginnings of break!

With our last meeting for the semester turning into a time of outreach, we are officially on break until the New Year.

I want to encourage you-- Enjoy your break for Christmas and New Year, but consider the gift of this time off and how it can be appreciated and given back to Christ through evangelistic worship. "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Luke 19:10 Less than 2,ooo years ago that is why He came. May we remeber that Christmas break, and this life, is not about us. It is about Christ. Keep looking to Jesus who is risen over the penalty and power of sin, and with an eye to Judgment day, keep sharing the Truth in love.

Check back soon for updates as to our next meeting and a recap of the semester! We will reconvene before school starts (1/11) to pray, reflect on last semester, refocus our mission for the spring semester, and fellowship in Christ. Plus: Are you preaching the Gospel to others? Are you preaching it to yourself? Gospel comes from the Greek word ευαγγέλιον (euangelion). The Greek term was Latinized as evangelium, and translated into Latin as bona annuntiatio. In Old English, it was translated as gōdspel (gōd "good" + spel "news"). So......The Gospel is NEWS!

If you don't already, consider preaching this news to yourself. If you find yourself forgetting that the Law has absolutely no power to change and sanctify you, meditate upon it untill the Law works its work in you, making sin "exceedingly sinful" through the commandment. See Romans 7:12-13. Then preach to yourself God's God-centered Good News.

During this series, part of our time will be spent enjoying some of the study "Journey in the Gospel" by Paul Washer. We'll also be taking a closer look at the wonderful truth of "justification" and it's impact on our doctrine, sharing of the Gospel, and the entirety of our lives.

Charles Spurgeon writes, “In these days I feel bound to go over and overagain the elementary truths of the gospel. In peaceful times we may feelfree to make excursions into interesting districts of truth which lie farafield; but now we must stay at home, and guard the hearts and homes ofthe church by defending the first principles of the faith. In this age therehave risen up in the church itself men who speak perverse things. Therebe many that trouble us with their philosophies and novel interpretations,whereby they deny the doctrines they profess to teach, and underminethe faith they are pledged to maintain. It is well that some of us, whoknow what we believe, and have no secret meanings for our words,should just put our foot down and maintain our standing, holding forththe word of life, and plainly declaring the foundation truths of the gospelof Jesus Christ” (The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Vol.32, p.385).

CHANGE Collegian Network UPDATE:

From the Field: This new section of the blog will post short summaries from CCN members about their experience sharing the Gospel on campus. It will be an encouragment to each other in being proactive with this Good News, and offer the "Lesson" learned by the evangelizing student. Our campus is so big, and it's so hard for us to always know what's going on with each other, so I thought seeing the actual evanglizing work God is doing on campus would be a blessing. The story of what God has done will be an encouragement for the group, so for God's glory any CCN member can email a "From the Field" segment to me at anytime, which will be put on the blog! ccn@iupui.edu). The first "From the Field" piece is below!

"Origin" into Schools: In November, we will be teaming up with Living Waters Ministries and the Good Messengers to bring FREE Copies of "Origin of Species" to students at IUPUI! The catch? The book is printed by Living Waters with a clear debunking of Evolution and a Gospel message in the introduction! We plan to reserve tables throughout campus as rally points for the distribution, and anyone able to help out is appreciated! What a creative way to get the Gospel in people's hands, and start conversations at IUPUI. The above video explains more!

The Blog: More and more updates and resources will be posted to the blog in the days to come!

Prayer Requests from CCN IUPUI: Please pray God will bring revival among our group and ultimately to IUPUI. Pray that we might see our own sin and how much we've been forgiven, that we might have much love towards our God, each other, and the lost. That we might be humbly taking up our crosses, with the joy of the Lord as our strength, and we might boldly speak as we ought for Christ, proclaiming His unadulterated Good News to all. That the unity of God's Spirit would be among us through Christ, growing us in purity, and powerfully sanctifying us, for His Name's sake among the lost.

FROM THE FIELD:

Location: Campus Center

This last week, I found myself in the Campus Center with about 3o minutes until my next commitment. I saw a young man sitting by himself on the first floor, and by God's grace alone, was moved to go share the News with him. From start to finish, the work was of God! I gave him a tract to begin the conversation and he warmly received it. I told him what it was and asked him if he had a minute to talk. To my surprise he offered me the seat across from him. From there, we talked for about 20 minutes about the Gospel. He said he used to go to church and different youth groups pretty consistently, but over time just "got away from it." At first, he said that thought he was an "okay" person, but definitely "not perfect." It seemed God had already been showing him his sin before we met, and he listened intently during our whole conversation. Thanks to God's Spirit moving, with His Word (primarily His law), I helped him see that by God's standard, he's not "okay," but is actually at enmity with God, and as far as I could tell, God was convincing this boy of his desperate state. All he could keep saying was that he "never heard any of this before."

Praise God, his mouth really was stopped (Romans 3:19) from justifying himself, and I asked if He knew what God did for him. He couldn't really say! I was able to lay out the Good News before him and, in a sense, blow the sand off of the lines that exist between his current belief system and God's Word. Again, the whole conversation he kept saying how he "never heard this before" or "never had anyone explain this." We spoke much about justice, and how his biggest problem is that God is is good and can "by no means clear the guilty." (Exodus 34:7). Then we talked about the substitutionary death of Jesus in his place and the implications of His resurrection from the dead. Then we talked about Christ's return and His call to repent and believe. He seeme genuinely convicted of his sin, and followed the patterns of thought very clearly when he heard the Gospel. Shortly after, he had to leave, so we ended on that note, and I refered him to the tract and website if he had any questions. He thanked me for taking the time to talk with him, and gladly gave me his email.

All in all, it was a beautiful and blessed encounter. It is a wonderful and fearful thing to see the Spirit of God moving, and it's so clear that God is the One who seeks people and brings them to life through His News! He also gets the credit for moving this oftentimes hesitant evangelist. I won't be surprised if I see this young man again, and hope to follow up via email. Please pray for Zach.

Lesson: There really are hearts whom God is calling to Himself on campus, and there are children of God at IUPUI who have yet to hear the Gospel of their salvation! Not everyone you approach with the intention of sharing the Good News is going to laugh at you or tell you to get lost. May we trust God! He wants to save, even more than we are willing to be used of Him in the process. May we find joy in bringing the news to those who reject it and those who receive it, because the ultimate purpose is God's glory and seeing the Name of Christ be lifted up!

Also, don't forget where you came from! Remember the terrible state of knowing you are guilty, but not knowing you are forgiven in Christ, and consider that there are people out there whom God is awakening, but who need the Good News! You might be the first one to verbally share the true Gospel with someone whom God is causing to thirst for righteousness! - JB

I consider this one of the most important lessons we cover in CCN, and for those who can make it, I encourage you to come. We will explore how that which is preached today and labeled "the Gospel" is often more than simply tamed, toned-down, or sugar-coated.....it's heretical! Can this be the reason so many false converts fill our churches today, why so many evangelistic endeavors yield no lasting results, and why unbelievers scoff at a message powerless to change them? Souls are converted when hearing and believing God's Good News, and in evangelism, the NEWS we bring is crucial to that process.

Hi everyone!

Thanks to everyone who came last Monday! It was such an encouraging time, and I trust that this semester will be a demonstration of the only, true, living God showing His power through such weakness, so that when it's over, it will be clear that the glory belongs to Him! The battle belongs to the Lord.

His witnesses are not sufficient in themselves, but find their sufficiency in Christ, and I have such anticipation that the laborers He raises up this semester will demonstrate this by His grace.

Our next meeting will be this Monday at the Campus Center at 6pm. It will be a time to pray, get to know each other better, set our meeting times for the semester (bring your class and work schedules!), and consider.....

Hey everyone! I'm grateful to be writing you, and look forward to seeing you soon!

School starts soon, and that means we are gearing up to hit the campus with a renewed sense of purpose; reaching out with the Good News, to all people everywhere, not because they deserve Him, but because HE deserves THEM! God is the worthy one, giving breath to people and pursuing them despite their rebellion. It is He who deserves us all to repent and trust Him. He is abounding in love and mercy, and has shown the highest expression of that truth 2000 years ago! How worthy He is, for who He is and what He's done!

I hope your summers are all off to a great start! Sorry to say, they will go fast, so enjoy them and make the most of them! Please take the time to read this message early this summer.

Since school got out, I've been thinking about our last school year, and every blessing of growth and obedience, including every truth we encountered individually and as a group.

Honestly, it was an interesting year. My hope and prayer is that even though most people's schedules conflicted during most meetings and events, and we had a hard time seeing each other consistently, each member grew in their understanding of, appreciation for, and trust in the Gospel, and their joy in spreading it for Christ's Name's sake.

For each person who is desiring personal, campus-wide, and church-wide revival, I'm reminded of this thought from A.W.Pink, "There are many who are praying for a world wide revival, but it would be more timely and more scriptural for prayer to be made to the Lord of the harvest that He would raise up and thrust forth labourers who would fearlessly and faithfully preach those truths which are calculated to bring about a revival."

That's what CCN is here for; not for socializing or even to gain members, by the grace of the Lord, to be labourers, thrust forth to "fearlessly and faithfully preach those truths which are calculated to bring about a revival," and to equip believers to do the same. I hope that goal has been evident to anyone who attended our meetings.

I hope to hear from each of you soon, and to hear specifically your thoughts about last semester. Could you give me all your observations, advice, complaints, praise-reports, etc? (ccn@iupui.edu) I would appreciate anything, and I will have more specific questions soon.

“How Much Do You Have To Hate Someone Not To Proselytize?”

I really think that you are going to be challenged by this newsletter. In order for it to make sense, you have to watch a five minute video clip from Penn Jillette (Posted at bottom of blog). Some of you know him from the comedy act Penn and Teller. But many people know him as one of the foremost atheists in America...

There are just so many interesting points to his video. Did you catch that the guy who witnessed to him wasn‘t at the show that night? That means he went home after a show, and was burdened for Penn‘s soul. He got a Gideon‘s Bible and wrote some information in it, and returned to the theatre another time to talk with Penn. That spoke volumes to this lost person. It showed that this man cared.

You have to remember that Penn is not just some atheist. He continually dogs out God, Jesus, the Bible, etc. in his routines. I read that he has a license plate which says, “DOG ON” which is “No God” backwards. He has a hatred for God that is very deep-seated. Did you notice how Mr. Jillette kept mentioning how good this guy was? How polite, honest, and sane this man was? Did you notice when he said that he knew this man cared about him?

Matthew 5:44 says,
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

Colossians 1:10 states,
“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”

Do you see that how we encounter people is so important when we witness to them? It is the whole package. The words we use, how we speak, non verbal communication, etc. Lost people are checking us out. How we encounter them speaks volumes to them.

Did you see Penn‘s face as he was talking about this man? You might want to watch the video again. You can see it in his eyes and facial expressions: this conversation made a deep, deep impact on him. This man spoke words of life to him, and demonstrated how a man of God should act.

I have written a new talk that is called “We Are Here for Two Reasons.” And those two reasons are: To make Him well known, and To make Him look good. That is exactly what this man did in his witnessing encounter.

Some of us when we witness might have jumped on the fact that Penn didn‘t even know Psalms wasn‘t in the New Testament even though he has had some pretty hateful things to say about the Bible. That is truly a non-issue. His soul is much more important than his Biblical knowledge. He is lost. He needs truth. It is our job to give it to him. People don‘t get the gospel by osmosis. We are supposed to tell them.

This gentleman, or should we say gentle man, looked him right in the eye and was not defensive. He didn‘t need to be. He is a defender of truth. He knows Jesus Christ is Lord, and the Holy Spirit guides him into all truth. We need to look people in the eyes, and speak the truth in love into people‘s lives.

I really think Penn knows there is a God. The thing you can be sure of is that sin doesn‘t satisfy. All the money in the world will still leave you with some lonely nights as you lay on your bed.

Would you please pray for Penn? Would you please witness to an atheist or any lost person sometime soon? Would you please stop worrying about if they look really tough on the outside? Because God might have already softened their heart on the inside.

Matthew 4:19 says,
“And He saith unto them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”

Mark 16:15 states,
“And He saith unto them, ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.’”

Many of you have read my books or listened to the messages I have given on reaching the lost. If you won‘t listen to me to get out there and tell the whole world about Jesus, and if you won‘t listen to Jesus, would you at least listen to an atheist who says, “How much do you have to hate somebody not to proselytize?”

Hey all! I hope you all had a great weekend!

We are very fortunate to know the Good Messengers, a local biblical-evangelism fellowship, and have the privilege of serving alongside these experienced, compassionate evangelists. They are always busy being witnesses at events, festivals, shopping malls, (and pretty much anywhere else), including on our campus.

This Monday (3/2) is their Monthly Meeting, where evangelists from all over the area come to fellowship, grow, and learn. Whether you are experienced in evangelism or just getting your feet wet, it is such a beneficial time that we thought we would take a FIELD TRIP during our meeting to join them! (We will provide transportation if you'd like!)

Report to CE 306 at 6pm sharp, and we'll head to the meeting together around 6:10!

The meeting will be at Horizon Christian Fellowship Central from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Pizza and drinks served. All are welcome who have a passion for evangelism.

Hey all! How have you all been?

I've been encouraged by seeing how faithful God is to provide opportunities to be a witness when are willing. HE is the true Missionary and Evangelist. HE is the one who expends all His resources to provide sinners His salvation and the news of it. HE's been called the "Hound of Heaven," who seeks and saves sinners, and tirelessly tracks them down, with divine passion. May we pray for, and thank Him for, the privilege of sharing that passion.

Our next meeting will be encouraging for those desiring to share that passion!

Hope you had a great break! Welcome back to school! Hopefully you have your spring schedule of classes by now. We want to plan the best time for CCN meetings this semester so please let us know your preferences. We would like to have our first meeting the first week of classes! It was our desire that the past 18 weeks would have been spent faithfully following hard after the Christ, diligently learning how to biblically share His good news, and passionately being His witnesses.

I'm sure that the parts of the semester we each value most were when we we're fulfilling those goals. We look forward to improving in all our goals by His grace. We have a great responsibility. We just got back yesterday from the Way of the Master Deeper Conference! We got to hit the streets of Atlanta on Saturday night with a team of about 500 Christians, including some new friends from Indiana!

We also got to meet up with our friend James from CCN's bootcamp, Repent and Witness 2008! God blessed us with a refreshing, challenging, and encouraging weekend!

Join us tonight in CE 268 (note room change) from 6-8pm! We are going to be talking about the justice of God as it relates to presenting the Gospel. This Thursday we will be having our Justice Discussion at Democracy Plaza from 2-3pm! Keep promoting this event whenever and whereve you can! (In addition to promoting the Gospel, of course!)

The Ultimate Purpose for the Universe

God’s ultimate purpose for the universe and for all of history and for your life is to display the glory of Christ in its highest expression, namely, in his dying to make a rebellious people his everlasting and supremely happy bride. To say it another way, God’s ultimate purpose in creating the world and choosing to let it become the sin-wracked world that it is, is so that the greatness of the glory of Christ could be put on display at Calvary where he bought his rebellious bride at the cost of his life.
I base this statement of God’s ultimate purpose on several texts. For example, Revelation 13:8 where John refers to God’s writing names “before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.” So in God’s mind Christ was already slain before the creation of the world. This was his plan from the beginning. Why?
Because in being slain “to make a wretch his treasure”—to make a rebel his bride—the glory of his grace would shine most brightly, and that was his ultimate purpose according to Ephesians 1:4-6, “In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ . . . to the praise of the glory of his grace.”

This is obviously another "Fundamental Doctrine." According to Scripture, if somebody does not have this right, they are lost. (John 8:23)

Good Outreach! & Spring Break!

Hey guys! Here's a QUICK UPDATE!
This Tuesday was a great time @ CCN. (We missed you Fungie!) To sum up, we spent our usual time in the Campus Center, walking around, starting conversations. Pascal and I were so blessed with our encounter with Matt.
He invited us to sit and, by God's grace, was open to hearing the Gospel. I am so encouraged to see the power of God in these encounters!! By God's grace, we showed concern for him, heard his beliefs, and then let God's Word speak to him about the very things he believes. First we agreed that the Bible is God's Word, and then we went verse by verse to see where he stands with God. He even agreed that based on the Bible, he is in need of salvation. Pray that God in His sovereignty and mercy would call him into Life! Please keep him in prayer. He got some tracts and our contact info. He even said he would give a tract to his friend that would be joining him.
Also, by God's grace, Andrea got to spread the truth about America's "Christian culture" in her conversations with the people she met.
The whole time was all of God's grace!

So, Have a great Spring Break! We'll all be in touch soon!

Thank you all so much for coming to the meeting led by Jonathan last week! I don't think I was the only one suprised by what God did with the fire alarm during our meeting!
We had such a great week with Jonathan here! It was really a blessing be with such a compassionate brother and a bold witness. That was a lot of witnessing! Be sure to keep praying for him, Tiffany, and the other campus leaders!
Also, newsflash! We are turning in our papers to become an official campus organization so that we can continue to do outreaches with no problems.

QUICK UPDATE!
Brother Jonathan from CCN Headquarters is finally here from New Jersey!
This Tuesday, he will be teaching us at our meeting, and discussing Islam. Lord willing, we will see each other then, and afterwards go witnessing on the campus!! For those who have classes, and don't want to skip :0 , we will make sure to meet up later! thanks guys!

Thank you guys for coming to the last meeting!
As a review, we
- studied Justification by Jesus Christ alone
- discussed what God hates..(the sinner vs the sin) {Psalm 5:5, 7:11}
- Catholicism (Imputed vs infused righteousness) {Romans 4:6}
- set some goals for the semester
- began to look at the teachings on Justification from "Justification and Regeneration."

Here is the diagram we looked at.....

True Gospel: Faith (union with Jesus Christ) = Justification + Works
Roman Catholicism: Faith + Works = Justification
"Modern gospel": Faith = Justification - Works

Hey troops, I know you all enjoyed your breaks, and gave God the glory this Christmas!!!
Lord willing, we are going to have a great semester....of growing in the image of Christ!, evangelism!, fellowship!, knowledge of His Word!, and love for our God and the lost! And all for His glory, by the power of His Spirit. Let's go to Him in repentance, and be renewed in devotion to Him and His glory through His Gospel!!!! I don't have anything profound to say. Just look to Him. Him. Thank you all for your obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. May He bless you with His joy and strength. I am so priviledged to be a part of what God is doing with you all.

As we are thanking God for what He has done for us in Jesus Christ, we are all looking forward to the new year and what He will continue to do for the glory of His name. We are so grateful for what Jesus has done in our own lives and on the campus this past semester.

Hey everybody! Quick update! I hope that our first meetings have encouraged you to as much as they have encouraged me. When we see what Christ has done for us, we can serve Him "in view of God's mercy." He has overcome. Glory in His cross.
He shed His blood for my soul. That is our motivation. Lack motivation? Then you lack a vision of the face of Jesus Christ and His cross. See Him. Then there is no need for prodding and forcing to serve Him.
If God is God, serve Him! We only have one life. If you wait to serve until everything is perfect, you won't get that chance to serve. Sheep follow their shepherd. "Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19"

Here's a shout out to the ones and ones of people who look at this blog!
Our first meeting of the semester is this Tuesday! Glory to the LORD. We hope to meet you @ 9:00 a.m. (wow! who do these guys think they are, meeting at 9?!) in the Library on the third floor at the top of the stairs. (From there we will meet in one of the "study rooms")
During our first meeting we will discuss motives for evangelism, and an intro to what the Bible says about the Law concerning evangelism.
If you can't stay the whole time, don't worry, you can still come!

I hope this finds you all growing in your devotion to Jesus Christ and in your passion to bring His Gospel to the lost.
I just wanted to let everyone know what's going on this semester with CCN @ IUPUI. I am confident that God will have His way with CCN and that He will direct us into His will this year. I pray that God will give us each a burden for Him to be glorified and for the lost souls to see the salvation that only comes throught the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Please, if you would like to join us in studying and practicing Biblical evangelism (and also studying apologetics and Christian doctrine) on Tuesday mornings, let me know as soon as possible. Thanks to everybody who came on to our last meeting! We talked about the reality of Hell, our responsibility to share the Gospel with the lost, and the Lord's promise to be with us as we obey His command in faith. We talked about James 4:6 how "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." This will guide our witnessing encounters by remembering, Law the proud - Grace to the humble. God's Law is used to reveal someone's need for the Savior, while grace provides the perfect sacrifice of Christ, and a risen Savior!
"The beginning of repentence consists of that work of the Law by which the Spirit of God terrifies and confounds consciences. Just as the Christian life must certainly begin with the knowledge of sin, so Christian doctrine must begin with the function of the Law." - Melanchthon

Friday - Downtown!

Picture (Joe, Todd, John) Friday afternoon, Joe, Andrea, and John hit Monument Circle to see who the Lord would lead them to! They gave out hundreds of tracts (which proclaim God's moral Law, His justice, and the need to repent and trust in Jesus) They were blessed with many conversations and were able to talk to many about the urgency of salvation! They even met Todd, who joined right in by passing out tracts. He is enthusiastic about reaching the lost and plans on coming this Tuesday! Glory to God!
